Climate Change

One of the most important events in the world is coming! Preceded by the good news related to the cooperation between China and the United States in redoubling the efforts to fight climate change that the media recently announced, let us remember that the United Nations organizes the COP 26 in the United Kingdom in November 2021.

ESIT Traducciones participated with 18 interpreters in English, Spanish and French in COP 20 that took place in Peru. We were in charge of several Voices for Climate simultaneous rooms where proposals and initiatives regarding climate change were presented in the five priority topics on Peru’s internal agenda: Forests, Mountains and Water, Oceans, Energy and Sustainable Cities.

The world does not yet fully realize that it will hand over a very deteriorated and uncertain world to future generations due to the climate crisis, but there are promising signs of a new awareness.

Bill Gates has stated that climate change could cause more deaths than the current pandemic (La República). Greta Thunberg does not stop in her fight for climate justice. Antonio Guterres, UN Secretary General, called for renewable energy to be prioritized in the post-pandemic economic recovery (Ambiental News). The EU and the UK itself have expressed their willingness to do so. While this is hopeful, it is still not enough.

As translators and interpreters, we will be building bridges between nations so that together we can make COP 26 a turning point to finally solve the climate crisis.
